People who find it difficult to live independently may qualify for help with social care from Solihull Council. If you need help with washing and dressing, or find it difficult to prepare meals or maintain your health you can contact Solihull ‘One Front Door’ who can advise you of what support is available.
One Front Door is available on 0121 704 8007.
Personal Budgets are a new way for assessing and providing social care support. Solihull Council is introducing Personal Budgets for all users of adult social care. Personal Budgets enable people to understand what budget is available to meet their needs. They enable people to have choice and flexibility to plan how best to use the budget. They offer choice so that people can manage the budget themselves or ask the Solihull Council to manage it on their behalf.
There are seven stages to setting up a Personal Budget.
1. Information
Solihull Council will establish if you are eligible for social care support and provide information about Personal Budgets. To find out if you are eligible please contact Solihull ‘One Front Door’ on 0121 704 8007.
2. Assessment
Solihull Council will work out how much care/support you need by:
- Assessing your needs using a Community Care Assessment
- Asking you to fill in an assessment questionnaire (we will help you if you would like)
- Discussing the results with you
3. Indicative Budget
Based on information gathered in the assessment Solihull Council will work out the Personal Budget we think you need for help and support.
4. Support Plan
You decide what outcomes you want to meet, and write a support plan to explain how you would like to spend the budget. You also decide how you would like to manage the budget. If you prefer Solihull Council can help you to write the support plan.
Click here for the Support Plan Template.
5. Approval
You return the finished Support Plan to us. Solihull Council checks the Plan to make sure it is legal, affordable and effective and then approves the Plan.
6. Set-up
Once the Support Plan is approved the new arrangements are set up.
7. Review
Solihull Council reviews the plan with you to discuss how well it has worked and to make sure your needs are being met.
