Acorns Children's Hospice offers a network of specialist care and support to children and young people who have life limiting or life threatening illnesses and their families.
Services are offered at Acorns in Birmingham (located in Selly Oak), Acorns in the Black Country (located in Walsall) and Acorns in the Three Counties (located in Worcester).
Children and young people can stay at the hospices for short breaks, emergency and end of life care. We also offer flexible support to those who want to use the facilities for a day, accessing the hydro-therapy pool, multi-sensory room and other stimulating opportunities.
Acorns have teams of Community Workers who undertake outreach work with families, offering psychosocial support in their homes. This includes:
- Pre and post bereavement care
- Advocacy
- Coordinating services
- Facilitating groups (Asian Mothers Groups, Men’s Support Groups, Grandparents Groups, Mothers Groups)
- Adolescent Support
- Sibling Support
Acorns have a dedicated transitional team who work directly with young people and their parents undertaking transitional plans and linking them into adult services in preparation for when they leave children’s services. As part of this work we have a programme of ‘Preparation of Adulthood’ groups and forums facilitated by qualified youth workers for young people supporting them to develop life skills.
We also offer at Hospice at Home service to families in the Dudley and Wolverhampton areas and negotiate contracted and step down bed services where it is in the best needs of the child.
Acorns supports families 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
